Nell'aprile 2014 è uscita l'ultima edizione del Manuale Diagnostico e Statistico dei Disturbi Mentali, opera finalizzata alla formulazione di diagnosi che siano il più possibile affidabili e condivise, basate su un metodo ateoretico e descrittivo.

 

Anche se i problemi metodologici, affrontati nel corso degli anni dai maggiori esperti mondiali di psichiatria, non sono pochi, il DSM è quotidianamente utilizzato come riferimento nella pratica clinica e nell'attività di ricerca. La sua introduzione ha inoltre migliorato la comunicazione tra gli operatori della salute mentale e tra questi e il resto della comunità scientifica internazionale.

 

La giornata di studio ha affrontato questi argomenti, con particolare attenzione alle variazioni introdotte dalla recente edizione del DSM-5 rispetto al precedente DSM-IV-TR del 2000.
